Springboro Orchestra Association
The SOA is our non profit boosters organization and is a large part of why our strings program is thriving and growing in Springboro Community Schools. The SOA is made up of a core team of parents elected to a position who, along with input from Springboro strings teachers and parents just like you, help to create financial support for equipment, plan enrichment activities for all students, and create a supportive learning community for all our budding musicians.
Financial Support for StringsSOA raises funds to purchase and maintain school-owned cellos and basses (which students are not permitted to bring on the bus) as well as violins and violas for students who have financial need.
|
Enrichment ActivitiesSOA raises funds to deepen learning experiences by providing Master Classes for our HS students as they prepare for OMEA State Contest, and working to provide workshops for our younger students.
|
Caring CommunitySOA plans community building activities to help our students feel connected. We do an annual strings social event, take an annual trip to hear a professional symphony, and we hold a high school senior recognition banquet and awards ceremony.

History of Springboro Strings:
What first began as a studio of private Suzuki violin lessons in a downtown business became a class offered to Springboro 1st grade students at Clearcreek and Jonathan Wright Elementaries in 2006, taught by Mrs Abrams, thanks to our Superintendent Dr. David Baker. Soon, Mrs Benedict joined the staff in 2007, and students were added at Five Points and Dennis Elementary simultaneously with an after school 6th grade strings program at SI, until we had strings spanning grades 1-9 by the year 2010. While tight budgets made it difficult to keep our elementary program in the lower grades, the bar for excellence and the visibility of Strings in Springboro was such that we maintained strings in our upper grade levels and now have a very thriving program in grades 6-12.
Our Springboro Strings students have won competitive auditions for placement in the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Youth Strings and Junior Strings. We also have students who have won placements in South West Regional Orchestra, Middletown Youth Orchestra, Lebanon Youth Orchestra, West Chester Symphony, Great Miami Youth Symphony, Butler Youth Philharmonic and many more.
We now have many alumni who are college music majors or have graduated university as professional musicians. We have so many more who continue to play as an adult in community or university orchestras for the enjoyment music brings!
